The 20th Dubai Duty Free Senior’s Cup took place this past weekend at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.  The event, so eagerly anticipated as it was making its 20th year anniversary, enticed a large number of competitors.  81 golfers in total ventured out on to the stunning creek course in a bid to be crowned the 20th Dubai Duty Free Senior’s Cup Champion.

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dubai Duty Free, commenting on the tournament: “This is the 20th running of the seniors’ tournament and we had some incredible scoring today. Our thanks to all our participants and to the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club for their efforts in ensuring a great day was had by all.”

Producing an outstanding performance of 40 stableford points and being crowned 20th Dubai Duty Free Senior’s Cup Champion was Dubai Creek member Subhash Bawkar.  After being presented with his trophy, Subhash commented; “What an honour to be presented with such a prestigious prize!  This is a very proud moment for me, thank you to Dubai Duty Free and Dubai Creek for putting on such a great show.” The Best Gross prize was awarded to scratch handicapper Wayne Smith after his superb round of 76 strokes, equating to a stableford point score of 32.

The Men’s Division was as fiercely contested as ever with 6 players managing scores of 37 stableford points. The top two players were therefore decided on count back of the final 9 holes.   After their superior back 9 performances, Mohammed Al Musharrekh and Min Chul Shin were the division’s winner and runner up respectively.  The Ladies Division was also tightly contested with a single point separating Haide Wright and Maureen Platt who were awarded the Ladies winner and runner-up prizes.

On the par 3 8th and 14th holes, Patrick Morrow and Sandra Anderson showed great accuracy from the tee to win the nearest the pin prizes, whilst John Fellingham and Haide Wright, the competition’s only double prize winner, showed how well they were driving the ball by claiming the longest drive prizes on the 4th and 12th holes.

An outstanding evening of entertainment ensured the 20th Anniversary of the Dubai Duty Free Senior’s Cup really was celebrated in the style at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
