The Dublin Arabic Film Festival (DAFF) presented by Dubai Duty Free and in collaboration with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) took place over the weekend of November 13 – 15 at the Irish Film Institute, Dublin.
Six-time Academy Award nominee Jim Sheridan served as president of DAFF for the second time along with Festival Director, Zhara Moufid. The festival commenced with a red carpet evening followed by a special screening of The Prophet, an animated movie directed by Roger Alles (The Lion King), about a mischievous eight-year-old girl and features the voice talents of Salma Hayek and Liam Neeson, animation from Ireland’s Tomm Moore (Song of the Sea), and music from Glen Hansard and Damien Rice.
Jim Sheridan was joined on the red carpet by Fionnula Flanagan known for her part in Ulysses and Brian’s Friel’s Lovers, The ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Saeed M. Al Shamsi, Tomm Moore, animator and Omar Sharif Jr. (grandson to the late Omar Sharif who opened the festival in 2014). Also in attendance on the evening was Sinead El Sibai, Vice President – Marketing of Dubai Duty Free and representatives of the Arab-Irish Chamber of Commerce.
After the movie over a hundred VIP guests gathered at the 5 star Shelbourne hotel for a glamorous post event party. Guests enjoyed Cinema Roble wine and a wonderful range of delectable evening bites prepared by the executive chef Garry Hughes and his team.
