The 20th edition of the renowned Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup took place at The Montgomerie and Dubai Creek golf courses on 28 and 29 November respectively. Over 100 specially invited guests from all over the world battled it out over 36 holes with the goal of having their name engraved on the famous trophy.

After two wonderful days of golf and social engagements it was Dubai Creek’s very own member Mr Rabih Sfeila who was crowned champion with a superb total of 80 stableford points over the two rounds. On winning his title Mr Sfeila commented; “It has been a wonderful couple of days and I would like to say a huge thank you to Dubai Duty Free for looking after us so well and also to the teams at Dubai Creek and The Montgomerie for all of their efforts. I already cannot wait until next year!”

The fantastic score by Sfeila meant that he was the comfortable winner by five points over fellow Creek member Bayar Khan who was awarded the trophy for best local male performer. The runner-up in the gents category was previous champion and ex Dubai Creek captain Francisco Giles on 74 points and the 2nd runner-up prize went to David Warren who also had 74 points but lost in the count-back to Giles. The prize for best international male went to James Kfouri who scored an excellent total of 70 points.

In the ladies category it was another Dubai Creek member who finished on top. Naema Maya fired two consistent performances to give herself a total of 66 points and victory by two over Nancy Miller who collected the prize for the best international lady performance. The runner-up prize was awarded to Paula Johnstone with 60 points, and Barbara Foley collected the trophy for 2nd runner-up with 57 points.

The senior’s category was won by last year’s champion Mr Clark Francis who had another strong event finishing on 70 points just one ahead of runner-up George Henry. In the super senior division it was the popular Sandy McPherson who was crowned champion with 64 stableford points.

Commenting on the success of the 20th Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman said: "This tournament has gone from strength to strength over the years and we are delighted to say that some of our players have been here every year since 1993. Thanks to my team at Dubai Duty Free and to Montgomerie and Dubai Creek Golf Club for making this year's event so enjoyable".

As always Dubai Duty Free welcomed their special guest and ex European Tour champion Mr Des Smyth to the event to assist in the presentation and also to challenge each player to a nearest the pin contest on one of the par 3 holes. This was a contest to remember for Bernd Sommer who managed to score an incredible hole-in-one on the 14th hole to beat Smyth. Sommer was presented with a special certificate and his name will be added to the hole-in-one board inside the famous Dubai Creek clubhouse.

After the prize giving, Dubai Creek’s Head Golf Professional, Stephen Hubner commented; “On behalf of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club I would like to thank Mr Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free and Mr George Horan, President, for once again bringing this wonderful event to Dubai Creek.
